MTC Holds the First Annual Stakeholders Conference
Muhorro Town Council held the first annual stakeholders’ conference under the theme “The Muhorro We Want”. The conference that brought together key stakeholders in Muhorro Town Council, opinion leaders, and well-wishers took place on 28th December 2022 at MTC headquarters in Muhorro Town Council, Kagadi District.
Speaking on behalf of Chairperson LCIII, the Vice Chairperson Hon. Haj Waswa Rukyalekere said that the main purpose for the conference is to brainstorm on the Muhorro we envisage in the next 5, 10, or more years to come. He said that his vision is to see Muhorro ahead of big towns and cities like Fortportal, Hoima, and others. He called upon businessmen to invest in Muhorro especially putting up attractive storied buildings.
We need your input to take Muhorro to the next level. We want to see a vibrant town that is attractive, beautiful, and convenient for people to live in and do business

Haj. Waswa applauded the MTC Principal Town Clerk Mr. Isingoma John for transforming Muhorro Town Council into a better town.
The MTC Principal Town Clerk Mr. Isingoma John said that Muhorro Town Council is going steadily but it’s not yet where he would want to see it. He added that government doesn’t have enough funds to finance every project in Muhorro Town. He, therefore, called for potential partners to work with the Town Council and improve its standard.
He tasked participants and all the people of Muhorro Town Council to reflect on the following questions; What is the Muhorro you want to see? What are you doing now or what do you intend to do to realize the Muhorro you want?
He highlighted some of the key pressing issues faced by the Town Council including but not limited to; the lack of a physical plan for the Town Council which requires a minimum of UGX 300,000,000, low road funding, and lack of nationalism and patriotism among others.
He called upon participants to source for alternative funding options, increase their lobbying capacity and also work on people’s mindset change towards government programs being implemented in the Town Council.
The keynote speaker Sylvester Kugonza (PhD), who is the Dean School of Civil Service Public Administration and Governance at Uganda Management Institute(UMI) brought to the attention of participants that Muhorro Town Council is competing with other towns in Uganda in terms of infrastructure, beauty and other social services like roads, hospitals, hotels, schools among others.
He said that depending on the individual’s interest in Muhorro, everyone has his/her own perception of Muhorro which makes it tricky to define the Muhorro we collectively want to see. He however added that with time, it will be easier for people to come to a consensus on the attributes of the Muhorro they want to see.
Everyone has his/her own perception of the Muhorro he/she wants. Ask yourself; What is the Muhorro I want? Is it my home, or business place? Those who do business; tailors, bar owners, workshop owners, farmers, and others have their own perception of Muhorro. The youth have their own view of Muhorro. But with engagements like this stakeholder’s conference, we are able to come to a consensus on the Muhorro we collectively want

During the conference, the following were agreed upon as priorities for the Town Council.
- Developing a physical detailed structural plan for the Muhorro Town Council
- Embracing new opportunities, especially the Faith of Unity Healing City
- Extending water and electricity to most parts of the Town Council
- Conserving Chimpanzees in Karuswiga Ward to promote Tourism
- Opening more roads in order to expand the Central Business District
- Mindset change
The conference was attended by the Buyaga West Member of Parliament Hon. Tinkasiimire Barnabas, Kagadi District Chairman Service Commission, OC/CID Muhorro Police Station, Director Good Hope Parents Muhorro, Inspector of School Mr. Alinda Julius Mpigiza, Insurance consultant Mr. Kalinte Mathias, religious leaders, prominent businessmen among others.
